Steve
comes to Bloomington via Nebraska and Washington, DC. A native of Nebraska
(the other "go big red" state), Steve earned a bachelor of
music education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1987. He
spent the next nine years working as announcer and Music Director of
the Nebraska Public Radio Network.
A job opportunity for his wife Annette at the Smithsonian Press took
them to DC in 1996. While in Washington, Steve worked in a large print
music store in suburban Virginia, and performed with various professional
and amateur choruses in the area. ("It was nice to get paid to
sing for a change!") Memorable DC performances include the televised
"Kennedy Center Honors," several National Symphony concerts
with Leonard Slatkin, caroling in the White House, singing in the "pit
chorus" for the Mark Morris Dance Company, Monteverdi's Vespers
at the shrine at Catholic University, and many Kennedy Center Concerts
(with Christopher Hogwood, Helmut Rilling, Nicholas McGegan and others).
Steve and Annette moved to Bloomington in 2001, and Steve is currently
pursuing a master's degree in Library Science, with a specialization
in music librarianship. They are happy to be back in a college town
again, especially one as stimulating as Bloomington.
