Giving to West
Giving to WEST is easy and allows us to continue our support and outreach
West European Studies provides a number of services to the IU campus and academic community. In addition to our flagship MA program, we support faculty and staff through study, research, and travel awards. We help to promote awareness of Europe's culture, languages, and economic importance locally and throughout the country. WEST has not been immune as the economy has tightened recently, and although we are actively seeking new sources of funding, contributions are needed now more than ever. Online giving is easy and you will find the button on this webpage. West European Studies greatly appreciates your donations! Your monetary gift is tax deductible and you can specify where you would like your support to go. You can support the center in general or any one of our current initiatives.
With the current economy, contributions to WEST are needed now more than ever
We have several funds at WEST to which you can donate: the WEST General Fund, the Modern Greek Studies Fund, and the Cohen Award.
A contribution to the WEST General Fund helps enable us to take full advantage of opportunities such as campus and classroom guest speakers and lecturers, student and/or faculty travel for educational conferences, prospective student recruitment, and other projects as needs arise.
The Modern Greek Fund helps support our Modern Greek studies. Currently we provide three years of Modern Greek language study as well as courses in Greek literature, culture, and society.
The Cohen Award is given each year for the best graduate student paper on a topic pertaining to Western Europe. It is given in honor of the late Dr. Bill Cohen, Professor of European History famous for his contributions to French imperial history, colonial encounters, the development of modern cities, and studies on the Holocaust, the legacy of Charles de Gaulle, and philanthropy. The award is given to encourage continued scholarship among graduate students at Indiana University in the area of Western Europe.
The Gardner Award is presented for an outstanding MA thesis submitted to WEST. It is named in memory of the late Professor Roy J Gardner, who was an active and enthusiastic member of the WEST community at Indiana University. He sat on more WEST MA thesis committees than any other professor in WEST history. In addition to his teaching and mentoring in WEST, professor Gardner was an active academic and researcher who was in-demand internationally for his expertise and experience in Economics, teaching, and higher education administration.
