Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry Department - postdoctoral position in Biochemistry and Structural Basis of Neurodegeneration. Seeking a qualified and highly motivated individual to study the molecular basis of Huntington’s disease funded by the National Institutes of Health. Potential projects will 1) investigate the role of Huntingtin interacting protein 1 (HIP1) and clathrin-mediated vesicular trafficking in Huntington’s disease and/or 2) study the mechanisms of apoptosis in Huntington’s disease. Both projects will use structural, biochemical and cell-based approaches to address basic questions. Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a related field and experience in protein biochemistry, mammalian cell culture and immunofluorescence microscopy required. The Biocomplexity Institute at Indiana University, Bloomington, is seeking to a hire research associate to fulfill the following roles as part of recent initiatives funded by the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences: A research associate level language development specialist to lead development of the Cell Behavior Ontology, Cell Behavior Model Specification Language and Cell Type Repository. The candidate will develop tools for the implementation independent specification and sharing of multi-cell models and for the annotation of time-lapse imaging data sets; organize and lead language specification workshops; write language specifications for publication and discussion; maintain the developing language standard on a web portal; conduct community outreach and work closely with the developers of other ontologies and languages (particularly GO and SBML) to ensure interoperability. The applicant should be highly independent, have extensive experience in ontology or domain-specific language development, open-source community organization and workshop design. In addition, the applicant should have at least B.S. (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred) experience in developmental or cell biology and have shown a significant understanding of cell behavior phenomenology or time-lapse microscopy, as well as M.S. or Ph.D.-level expertise in language development. Expertise in angiogenesis, somitogenesis or gastrulation in either zebrafish or chick particularly helpful. Microscopy experience essential. Experience in image analysis also essential. Expertise in biomechanics or bioengineering is a plus. The candidate should have at least M.S (Ph.D preferred) degree in either biology, chemistry or biophysics. The IU Art Museum seeks an active, ABD-level graduate student with an interest in museum education and a broad background in the history of art and the humanities as a three-quarter-time Interdisciplinary Programs Coordinator (IPC)/Research Associate in the museum’s education department. The Biocomplexity Institute at Indiana University, Bloomington, is seeking to hire a research associate to fulfill the following roles as part of recent initiatives funded by the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences: A research associate level software developer to assist in the development of the CompuCell3D multi-cell simulation environment for Developmental Biology, Cancer and Toxicology Modeling. The candidate will develop modules to extend the capabilities of the CC3D environment and to improve user support. The candidate should have at least 4 years of experience developing C++ programs, be comfortable with open-source development and have participated in the development of large-scale scientific software. Extensive experience with using scripting languages (Python preferred) required. Experience in PyQt or Qt GUI development is a definite plus. Experience in at least two of the following is also required: modeling environment development, GUI development, data-analysis tool development, multithread optimization and symmetrical domain decomposition methods using OpenMP, multi-processor algorithm development using MPI, scientific GPU programming, lattice-gas or lattice-Boltzmann fluid dynamics solvers, reaction-kinetics modeling or finite-element environment development. Independence and the ability to develop software collaboratively are both essential as are developed writing skills. The successful candidate will also have experience documenting software and developing appropriate training materials and training exercises. Experience in domain specific XML-based language development or ontology development a plus, but not required. The applicant should have at least a B.S. level of experience in either biology, physics, biochemistry or bioengineering, and either M.S. or Ph.D.-level expertise in an appropriate computational or scientific discipline (physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, informatics, cognitive science). The Indiana Prevention Resource Center, a statewide addictions technical assistance, research, and education center, is seeking an Evaluator and Research Specialist in the area of alcohol and drug screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment. The position requires doctoral level research skills, and preferably knowledge and experience working with screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment technology. Candidates are required to have skills in evaluation and research design, instrument development, data collection and management, data analysis and interpretation, manuscript writing and publication, and grantsmanship. The IPRC is seeking a person interested in conducting research who both works well with others and independently. The person is required to work in multiple projects concurrently and needs to be comfortable with multi-tasking. Doctoral level skills in quantitative data analysis are required, as well as proficiency in SPSS statistical software and the ability to learn others as needed. Qualifications: Doctoral degree or doctoral candidate in Health Education or Public Health from a program accepted by the National Commission for Credentialing in Health Education. Indiana University has significantly expanded its NMR capabilities with the installation of 600 and 800 MHz Varian spectrometers in the new METACyt Biomolecular NMR Laboratory in Simon Hall. We now seek to appoint a Biomolecular NMR Spectroscopist at the Assistant Scientist (research-track) level, effective April 1, 2010. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Structural Biology or a related field; two years postdoctoral experience or equivalent is desired. The successful candidate will have documented experience with the application and optimization of modern biological NMR spectroscopy to structural studies of proteins. Familiarity with partially aligned systems and nucleic acids is desirable. Experience with the operation and maintenance of high field NMR spectrometers (600 and 800 MHz) and cryogenic probe systems is required, and knowledge of hardware and Unix-based software maintenance is essential. Familiarity with Varian systems and methods of NMR data analysis through structure calculation and validation stages are also desirable but not necessary. The fellow will pursue a research project that that speaks to central themes of the Seminar, and will play an active role in the intellectual life of the Seminar by helping to organize several workshops. The Indiana University Graduate Online Program in Adult Education seeks to fill a fulltime, tenure track vacancy. The academic appointment will be made at either the rank of assistant or associate, depending on the experience and publication level of the successful candidate. The appointment may begin as early as May 1, 2010 with summer teaching responsibilities, but should be no later than August 1, 2010 to enter fulltime teaching, advising and research. Online teaching is a major element of this position with at least two graduate-level courses each semester. Research with an appropriate national publication and presentation record will be expected to be compiled in order to meet tenure and promotion requirements of a major research university. The office and academic record for this position is at the Indianapolis campus which also houses national programs in medicine, informatics, education, engineering and law. The Adult Education masters program has been part of the School of Continuing Studies since 1996 and has awarded nearly 200 degrees. The program is delivered online. Substantial student enrollment growth is anticipated for the coming two years as recruitment of graduate students beyond Indiana will be a primary focus. The program is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association.
