Typing and Microsoft Word Tests

Indiana University has updated its testing package to Microsoft Office 2007; applicants who desire to have test scores on file must retake the Typing and MS Word tests. Current test scores will become unavailable to departments and applicants after June 12, 2009 due to the replacement of the current Bloomington-OLA system on that date. Applicants will be required to create a new Applicant Account in University-OLA to apply for positions listed after June 12th.

Typing and MS Word tests are given at the Employment Office, University Human Resource Services, Poplars Building Room E165, 400 East Seventh Street, Bloomington, Indiana. Tests are conducted by appointment, M-F 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the hour. Applicants should call (812) 855-2172 to schedule an appointment for testing. You do not have to wait until June 12th to complete the tests or create a new Applicant Account.

If a department determines that typing and/or Microsoft Word tests are required, the position announcement will indicate this. Usually, both the typing and Microsoft Word tests are required. In either case, applicants who do not have current test scores on file will not be referred to departments. In exceptional cases, Employment Consultants may refer applicants if they feel that the logistics of the test assessment—such as an applicant’s geographic location, military status, or other circumstances—create an undue hardship for the applicant. In such cases, applicants will be required to take the tests prior to employment.

Applicants desiring to improve their test scores after the initial test may retake the test one additional time. The highest score will be kept and used.

Applicants may retake the tests after 90 days; the most recent score is kept. Scores do not expire, however, if scores are over one year old, or software packages have been updated, applicants may be asked to retake the tests.
