She was an Elly Award winner for Best Actress in a musical and has performed with the California Music Circus, Sacramento Opera, and the Sacramento Ballet. MARK BANIK (Curly) is a junior B.F.A. student in Musical Theatre. He has appeared in Hamlet (Guildenstern), The Day Boy and the Night Girl (Fargu), IU Black Play Lab’s staged reading of Bulletproof Hearts, and Seussical the Musical (Wickersham Brother) at the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center. MARC R. WINSKI (Will Parker) is a junior majoring in Theatre and Drama. At the Norvelle Center he appeared in The Wild Party (Max), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Protean), Seussical the Musical (Wickersham Brother), and Urinetown (Billy Boy Bill). Marc was a Lead Singer/Dancer for Rock n’ Country at Cedar Point and played Danny in Grease at the Tippecanoe Amphitheatre. PRODUCTION TEAM
GEORGE PINNEY (Director) Nominated for a 2001 Tony Award and National Broadway Theatre Award in choreography, George received an Emmy Award for outstanding choreography for the PBS broadcast of Blast! George, Professor of Theatre and Drama and Head of the B.F.A. in Musical Theatre program, has directed and/or choreographed over 150 musical theatre productions for national and international tours and regional and university theatres including the Department’s fall production of The Wild Party. Recognized for his teaching, George was awarded the Friedrich Herman Lieber Award for Distinguished Teaching, 5 Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence in Teaching, and membership in the Faculty Colloquium of Excellence in Teaching.
TERRY LABOLT (Conductor) is Assistant Professor and Musical Director of the Musical Theatre Program in the Department of Theatre and Drama. He earned his B.M. in Piano Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati where he was the Music Director of musical theatre for more than ten years. Terry’s career as a Broadway conductor includes shows such as 42nd Street, Hello, Dolly! (with Carol Channing), George M (with Joel Grey), and Sugar Babies (with Ann Miller and Mickey Rooney). He is co-author of The Wonder Years – the Musical which enjoyed success Off-Broadway and in Los Angeles in the 1980’s. Endeavors at the keyboard include The Fantasticks (original Off-Broadway production) and tough touring shows such as The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Aida, and most currently, Mamma Mia. He performed the area premiere of Keith Emerson’s Piano Concerto #1 with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra in 2001.
JARED RUTHERFORD (Scenic Designer) is a third-year M.F.A. student in Scenic Design with a B.A. from SUNY – New Paltz. Oklahoma! is Jared’s thesis project. Previous scenic designs include: Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center: Dead Man Walking, The Day Boy and the Night Girl, Measure for Measure, and Big Love; Brown County Playhouse: The Boys Next Door; and Monomoy Theatre: My Fair Lady, Anna Christie, and others. While at SUNY – New Paltz he received the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region Two set design award for Anything Goes. Jared is from DeRuyter, New York.
ROBBIE STANTON (Costume Designer) is the costume studio supervisor for all Norvelle Center and Brown County Playhouse productions where he recently designed the costumes for Jimmy Cory, and Nine. Other selected designs: Sweet Charity, Parade, Woyzeck, Guys and Dolls, Hurlyburly, Anything Goes, Twelfth Night, Pippin, Brigadoon, and IU Broadway Cabaret tour. In 2008 he designed the world premiere of The Day Boy and the Night Girl. Robbie also has designed costumes for Brown County Playhouse productions of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown; Something’s Afoot; A Tuna Christmas; Forever Plaid; Lend Me a Tenor; Tintypes; I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Pump Boys and Dinettes, and countless others. Outside designs include Marisol, Goodnight Desdemona, Visiting Mr. Green, and three years with Star of Indiana Brass Theatre. Robbie has also worked as a dyer for such theatres as the Old Globe Theatre and La Jolla Playhouse. He is a member of I.A.T.S.E local 893.
SEAN MICHAEL SMALLMAN (Lighting Designer) is a third-year M.F.A. student in Lighting Design with a B.F.A. from University of Arizona. Oklahoma! is Sean’s thesis project. At the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center Sean designed lighting for The Wild Party, The Day Boy and the Night Girl, An American Ma(u)l, Measure for Measure, and Reel, and co-designed Big Love. This summer he was Lighting Designer for The Boys Next Door at Brown County Playhouse and interned with the Stratford Festival in Ontario. He has also designed for numerous Arizona theatres, including Arizona Repertory Theatre. Sean is from Mesa, Arizona.
ANDREW HOPSON (Sound Designer) is Assistant Professor of Sound Design in the Department of Theatre and Drama. Andrew received his B.A. from Grinnell College, his M.M. from Butler University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.He has designed shows at such theatres as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Utah Shakespearean Festival, Actors Theatre of Louisville, American Repertory Theatre, American Players Theatre, Metro Theatre of St. Louis, Milwaukee Rep, Cincinnati Playhouse, Victory Gardens, Harvard University, and the Indiana Repertory Theatre, where he was resident Sound Designer for five years. In 2004 he had his New York debut with Trying, which was rated one of the best Off-Broadway shows of the year. As a musician, recording engineer, and producer he has released over 30 CDs ranging from Baroque works to audio books. His film work includes Utah's Olympic Legacy, Hockey’s Greatest Era 1942-1967, and The Birth of Legends.
JEREMY PHILLIPS (Stage Manager) is a senior majoring in Theatre and Drama and English. Last season Jeremy was Stage Manager for the world premiere of Jimmy Cory at the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center, where he served as Assistant Stage Manager for Seussical the Musical and Reel. He was also Assistant Stage Manager for The Glass Menagerie and Pump Boys and Dinettes at the Brown County Playhouse and for the University Players production of Suburbia. Jeremy is from Michigan City, Indiana.
SABRINA LLOYD (Assistant Stage Manager) is a second-year M.F.A. student in Directing who received her B.F.A. in Theatre Performance from Florida State University. At the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center she directed Marisol, was the Assistant Director for Measure for Measure and acted in various roles in Metamorphoses. As an Independent Studies project she directed Some Explicit Polaroids and Aria Da Capo on the Library Lawn. Sabrina is the Founding Artistic Director of GroundUp Theatre in her hometown, Chicago, Illinois.
KEVIN LOVE (Assistant Stage Manager) is a sophomore majoring in Stage Management in the Department of Theatre and Drama. He previously was Assistant Stage Manager for Dead Man Walking and An American Ma(u)l. He has also performed with Actors Theatre of Louisville, Music Theatre of Louisville, Derby Dinner Playhouse, Kentucky Opera, and Stage One. Kevin is from New Albany, Indiana.
CHELSEA WILKERSON (Assistant Stage Manager) , a 21st Century Scholar award winner, is a freshman majoring in Theatre and Drama. This is Chelsea’s first production for the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center. Previously she Assistant Stage Managed Cabaret for the Union Board at the Buskirk-Chumley. Chelsea is from Bloomington, Indiana.
LISA MAYDWELL (Assistant Lighting Designer) is a senior majoring in Theatre and Drama and Art History. At the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center she was the Deck Electrician for Metamorphoses and Property Run Crew for Twelfth Night. She was also on the Wardrobe Run Crew for Plaza Suite at the Brown County Playhouse. Lisa has served on the Paint & Property Crew at IU’s Musical Arts Center and as Lighting Designer for Dancer’s Studio, Inc. in Columbus, Indiana. Lisa is from Baltimore, Maryland.
ALICIA BAILEY (Technical Director) is a third-year M.F.A. student in Scenic Technology with a B.F.A. in Technical Theatre from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. At the Norvelle Center she served as Technical Director for The Wild Party, Side Man, An American Ma(u)l, and The Real Thing and Props Designer for An Ideal Husband and Metamorphoses. Alicia also served as the Assistant Technical Director for the 2008 Brown County Playhouse season and Technical Director for the Nebraska Repertory Theatre. She is from Palisade, Nebraska.
MARY WEBER (Props) is a third year M.F.A. student in Technical Direction who earned a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Iowa. At the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center she has been the Technical Director for An Ideal Husband, Dead Man Walking, Seussical the Musical, Metamorphoses, and Reel; Assistant Technical Director for Nine; Technologist for Twelfth Night and Hamlet; and Prop Master for An American Ma(u)l and The Birthday Party. Mary’s hometown is Cedar Falls, Iowa.
NANCY LIPSCHULZ (Voice/Dialect Coach), Associate Professor of Voice and Speech, has worked as an actress in New York, California, Michigan, Texas and Chicago, including the new play series at Chicago’s Victory Gardens in High Holidays by Alan Gross, as well as overseas in London and is a veteran of six Fringe festivals in Edinburgh. She has worked on feature films, industrials, commercials, and network television and is a member of the Screen Actors Guild, Actors’ Equity, and VASTA. Nancy has been a professor of Acting, Voice, and Directing at Cornell University, Ohio Wesleyan, and Wayne State University. Directing credits include: Evita, Much Ado About Nothing, Twilight Los Angeles, and Fires in the Mirror. She recently coached the New York City Opera production of Dead Man Walking, directed by Tony Award winner Leonard Foglia, and the National Tour of Kiss Me Kate. She is the voice for Lexus GPS systems for Inter Group Corporation, Tokyo.
ADAM NOBLE (Movement Consultant/Fight Choreographer) is Assistant Professor of Movement/Combat for the Department of Theatre and Drama. He is also a professional actor, with credits including Shakespeare in the Park, Lincoln Center Director’s Lab, Julliard, P.S. 122, Seattle Rep, Guild Hall, and On the Boards. In addition to his role as a professor, Adam is a dancer, martial artist, traceur, and stuntman, with movement and combat credits in the worlds of film, theatre, and opera. Adam is a member of the Actors Equity Association, the Association of Theatre Movement Educators, and the Society of American Fight Directors. He has taught movement and stage combat in New York, California, Nebraska, Ohio, and Washington, and choreographed the violence for over 50 stage and film productions. This spring his theatre company, the Dynamic Presence Project, premieres their original work “Terminus” here in Bloomington, before a run at the iNDYfRINGE theatre in Indianapolis.
