nile arena headshot Nile Arena (French Ambassador) is a junior majoring in Theatre and Drama. This is Nile’s debut at the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center. Previously he has appeared at the University of Kent in Wreckhouse (Thomas O’Steinway) and the Chicago College of Performing Arts in Fable Settings (Terry). Nile is an alumnus of the IU Midsummer Theatre Program. He is from Bloomington, Indiana.
matt buffalo photo Matthew Buffalo (Lord Goring), a third-year M.F.A. Acting student, earned a B.A. (Marketing) from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Lord Goring is his M.F.A. thesis role. Other credits include: Norvelle Center: The Wild Party (Sam), The Seagull (Sorin), Seussical (Cat), Twelfth Night (Sir Andrew), Reel (Alex). Brown County Playhouse: Lend Me a Tenor (Max), Pump Boys and Dinettes (Jim). Utah Shakespearean Festival: Cyrano de Bergerac (Citizen), Fiddler on the Roof (Rabbi), Othello (Understudy). National tours: Fosse, Spirit of the Dance. Other favorite roles: True West (Austin), The Promise (Satan), Celebrate America (Jimmy), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Judah). jeff corso photo Jeff Corso (Sir Barford) is a sophomore majoring in Theatre and Drama making his debut at the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center. Recently he directed Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead for the Collins LLC. Jeff is from Chesterton, Indiana.
isabel dieppa photo Isabel Dieppa (Mrs. Marchmont) is a junior majoring in Theatre and Drama. This is her debut at the Norvelle Center. She has appeared for the University Players in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (Chief Bromden) and in Macbeth (Witch) for the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival. Isabel is from South Bend, Indiana.
gina diserio photo Gina DiSerio (Lady Basildon)is a junior majoring in Theatre and Drama. She previously appeared at the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Centerin Hamlet as a Court Lady. For the University Players’10 Minute Play Festival, Gina played Dawn in The Universal Language. Gina is an alumna of the IU Midsummer Theatre Program. She is from Stockton, California.

sarah fischer photo Sarah Fischer (Lady Chiltern)is a first-year M.F.A. student in Acting. She received her B.A. in Theatre from George Washington University. At the Norvelle Center she appeared as Woman with Furs in Marisol. Her Washington, DC, credits include The Hundred Dresses (Maddie) for Imagination Stage and An Inspector Calls (Sheila) and If We are Women (Polly) for the Washington Stage Guild. Sarah is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio.
kaleb havens photo Kaleb Havens (Tommy Trafford) is a junior majoring in English. This is his debut at the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center. Last year Kaleb appeared in the University Players production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (Billy Bibbit). He is from Zionsville, IN.
matt herndon photo Matt Herndon (James) is a sophomore majoring in Theatre and Drama. He has appeared at the Norvelle Center in Dead Man Walking (Herbie), An American Ma(u)l (Homeless Joe) and Measure for Measure (Sebastian). Matt served as technical director for Bloomington Playwrights Project’s 25th Annual Mini Play Festival. Other Bloomington credits include Lycon (Amon Ayoub) for IU’s Meet the Playwrights and J-Money (Bill) for University Players Cabaret. Matt is originally from Bloomington.
raymond lee photo Raymond Lee (Harold/Sir Marchmont) is a freshman majoring in Theatre and Drama. This is his debut at the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center. For the Carroll Arts Center he has performed in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Charlie Brown). Raymond is from Mt. Airy, Maryland.
sarah mccarroll photo Sarah McCarroll (Lady Markby) is a second-year Ph.D. candidate in Theatre and Drama. She earned an M.F.A. in Costume Design (University of Alabama), a B.A. (University of Missouri), and an A.F.A. (Young Harris College). She previously appeared at the Norvelle Center in The Seagull (Polina). Other favorite roles were in Translations (Bridget), Three Tall Women (C), and Ghosts (Regina). Costume designs include Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Hamlet. Sarah is from Young Harris, Georgia.
johanna moffit photo Johanna Moffit (Duchess Maryborough) is a doctoral student in Voice Performance in the School of Music. She is appearing in Gianni Schicchi (Nella) for the IU Opera Workshop and has appeared in Rigoletto (Countess Ceprano) for the IU Opera Theatre. Other performances include the upcoming Terminus (Ensemble) for Indy Fringe Theatre and various scenes from Maria Stuarda (Maria Stuarda), La Finta Giardiniva (Arminda), and Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira) at the 2008 Centro Studi Italiani Opera Festival in Urbania. Johanna is from Buffalo, New York.
christina rahn photo Christina Rahn (Lady Barford) is a junior majoring in Theatre and Drama. She has previously appeared on the Ruth N. Halls stage in The Crucible (Witness). She has also performed for the Bloomington Playwrights Project’s Sex/Death Festival and the University Player’s production of The Chatterbox Café (Cindy). Christina is from Long Island, New York.
abby rowold photo Abby Rowold (Mrs. Cheveley) is a first-year M.F.A. student in Acting. She received her B.A. in Theatre from the University of Northern Iowa. At the Norvelle Center she appeared in Dead Man Walking (Lucille). Other credits include Chicago productions of Top Girls (Joyce/Isabella Bird/Mrs. Kidd), The Crucible (Ann Putnam), Major Barbara (Barbara Undershaft), and Anna Karenina (Dolly). At UNI she appeared in Summer and Smoke (Alma), The Bakkhai (Tiresius), and The Taming of the Shrew (Lucentio), among other roles. Abby is from Chicago, Illinois.

She appeared in Hamlet (Ophelia), The Seagull (Nina), The Real Thing (Debbie), The Crucible (Mary Warren), She Stoops to Conquer (Constance Neville), Wit (Ensemble), and Arcadia (Chloe) at the Norvelle Center; Booty Candy (Assorted Roles) at Black Curtain, Miss Julie (Julie), Synthesis (Shay), and Why We Have a Body (Mary) in independent student productions, and Loving Parents (Woman) at the BPP. Justine is a Rosemary R. Schwartzel Scholar from New York, NY.
kevin sheehan photo Kevin Sheehan (Mr. Montford) is a junior majoring in Theatre and Drama. At the Norvelle Center he appeared in Dead Man Walking (Guard), An American Ma(u)l (Guard Dog / Ensemble), and The Crucible (Witness). He was also in University Player’s 10@10 (Chorus) and played various roles in Bloomington Playwrights Project Sex/Death V. Kevin is an alumnus of the IU Midsummer Theatre Program and is from Greenwood, Indiana.
graham sheldon photo Graham Sheldon (Phipps)is a senior majoring in Theatre and Drama and Telecommunications. At the Norvelle Center he previously appeared in Hamlet (Horatio), Metamorphoses (Vertumnas and others), Measure for Measure (Dario), and The Crucible (Hathorne). Graham produces all the video teasers for the Norvelle Center 08-09 season and worked as Projection Designer for Hamlet. Other area credits include Three Sisters, Some Explicit Polaroids, Aria Da Capo, and Red Scare (BPP) as well as Romeo and Juliet (MCCT).  Graham is from Carmel, California.
taylor st john photo Taylor St. John (Lord Caversham), a William E. Kinzer Memorial Scholar, is a junior majoring in Theatre and Drama and Theatre Education. He previously appeared at the Norvelle Center in Dead Man Walking (Warden), The Seagull (Shamraev), Measure for Measure (Barnardine), Big Love (Groom/Ensemble), and The Crucible (ReverendParris). Other credits: Dying City (Craig/Peter) at Black Swan Theatre, Mr. Marmalade (Mr. Marmalade) for Inpulse Productions, and Another Antigone (Dave) for Bloomington Jewish Theatre. Taylor is from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
eric young photo Eric Young (Lord Chiltern), a first-year M.F.A. student in Acting, received both a B.A. (Psychology) and a B.S. (Biochemistry) from New Mexico State University. He previously appeared at the Norvelle Center in Dead Man Walking (Hilton) and in Hamlet (Hamlet) for Las Cruces Community Theatre, The Seven Descents of Myrtle (Chicken) for Aardvark Theatre, Antony and Cleopatra (Enobarbus) for Shakespeare on the Rocks, Killer Joe (Ansel Smith) for lo-fi Productions, and Dracula (Dracula) for American Southwest Theatre. Eric is from Las Cruces, New Mexico.

CREATIVE TEAM

Fontaine Syer (Director) is an Associate Professor in Acting and Directing, joining the Department of Theatre and Drama in fall 2005. She has worked as an actor and director in regional theatres for nearly 30 years. Most recently, she was Artistic Director of Delaware Theatre Company in Wilmington. From 1992-96, she served as Associate Artistic Director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, where she acted/directed each season. She also was co-founder and Artistic Director of Theatre Project Company in St. Louis, Missouri, from 1975-1989. Syer has worked as a free-lancer in theatres across the country, including the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Missouri Repertory Theatre, Pennsylvania Centre Stage, Meadowbrook Theatre in Michigan, and the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Since joining the IU faculty she has directed Measure for Measure, She Stoops to Conquer, and The Crucible in the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center.

Seamus M. Bourne (Scenic Designer) is a third-year M.F.A. student in Scenic Design, creating the design for An Ideal Husband as his M.F.A. thesis project. He received his B.A. from UNC Wilmington. At the Norvelle Center Seamus was scenic designer for Side Man and An American Ma(u)l, and The Wild Party; co-scenic designer for The Day Boy and the Night Girl, scenic artist for Jimmy Cory, The Crucible; and prop master for Marisol, The Real Thing, Nine and several shows at Brown County Playhouse. Other scenic design credits include Plaza Suite at Brown County Playhouse and Shadow of a Gunman and Boys’ Life at UNCW, for which he won the Southeastern Theatre Conference Undergraduate Design Award. Seamus is from Tenafly, New Jersey.

Erica Griese (Costume Designer), a second-year M.F.A. student in Costume Design, received her B.A. from Iowa State University. Previously for the Norvelle Center Erica designed costumes for The Wild Party and Metamorphoses. This past summer she was Assistant Wardrobe Supervisor for Glimmerglass Opera. Other costume design credits include Lunar Eclipse Complete (Modern Dance), Incorruptible, I Never Sang for My Father, and Fuddy Meers for ISU. She has worked for Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Great River Shakespeare Festival, and Wolf Trap Opera. Ericais from Wausau, Wisconsin.

Cynthia Murphy (Light Designer)is a third-year M.F.A. student in Lighting Design with a B.F.A. from the University of Utah. An Ideal Husband is her M.F.A. thesis project. Previously Cynthia designed projections for Metamorphoses and The Real Thing and lighting for Hamlet, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Jimmy Cory, Big Love, and Side Man at the Norvelle Center; On the Razzle, Assassins, Angels in America, Three Sisters, and Picasso at the Lapin Agile at Utah; and Fefu and her Friends at Westminster College – Dumke. She is from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Liz Replogle (Sound Designer) is a second year M.F.A. student in Lighting Design. At the Norvelle Center she designed lighting for Dead Man Walking. Previous shows include Metamorphoses and The Community of Dance. Liz graduated magna cum laude from George Mason University where she was the Lighting Designer for The Dead. She has been the Master Electrician for Imagination Stage, a Production Supervisor at Atmosphere Lighting, Inc., and a Stage Manager for the Theatre of the 1st Amendment. Liz is from Woodbridge, Virginia.

Laura Kramer (Composer) earned Bachelor of Music in both Music Theory/Composition and Saxophone Performance from West Chester University of Pennsylvania, and her Masters of Music Composition from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. This is Laura’s debut work for the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center.  Her Warped for alto saxophone was recently selected for the 2009 SEAMUS National Conference as well as the 2008 North American Saxophone Alliance Conference.  Laura is from Minersville, Pennsylvania.

Mary Weber (Technical Director) is a third-year M.F.A. student in Technical Direction who earned a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Iowa. An Ideal Husband is her M.F.A. thesis project At the Norvelle Center she has been the Technical Director for Dead Man Walking, Seussical: the Musical, Metamorphoses, and Reel; Assistant Technical Director for Nine; Technologist for Hamlet; and Prop Master for An American Ma(u)l, Nine, and The Birthday Party.  Mary recently received the 2009 KM Fabrics Technical Production Award from USITT, a national award for “demonstrated excellence or outstanding potential in the area of technical direction or production management in the performing arts while pursuing a graduate degree.” Mary’s hometown is Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Alicia Bailey (Properties Designer) is a third-year M.F.A. student in Scenic Technology who received her B.F.A. in Technical Theatre from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. An Ideal Husband is her M.F.A. thesis project. For the Norvelle Center she has served as Technical Director for The Wild Party, Side Man, An American Ma(u)l, and The Real Thing and Properties Designer for Metamorphoses. Elsewhere she served as the Technical Director for the Nebraska Repertory Theatre and Assistant Technical Director for the Brown County Playhouse. She is from Palisade, Nebraska.

Claire LaNicca (Stage Manager) is a junior majoring in Theatre and Drama. She has assistant stage managed Measure for Measure at the Ruth N. Halls and Nozze di Figaro and Merry Wives of Windsor for the Musical Arts Center. This past summer she stage managed on the Showboat Majestic in Cincinnati. She graduated magna cum laude from her hometown high school in Mason, Ohio.

Sarah Schlegel (Assistant Director) is a junior majoring in Theatre and Drama and History. She has appeared at the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center in Twelfth Night (Lantern Holder/Servant), Measure for Measure (Novice), and The Crucible (Susannah Walcott). Sarah is the recipient of a Hutton Honors Scholarship. She is from Park Ridge, Illinois.

Amy Levin (Assistant Costume Designer) is a senior majoring in Apparel Merchandising. Previously at the Norvelle Center, Amy served as Assistant Costume Designer for The Wild Party. She has studied abroad in London and worked for various fashion industry firms in Los Angeles and Chicago. Amy also has experience in trend reporting, event planning, and costume wardrobe. Her hometown is Long Grove, Illinois

Marcie Smith (Assistant Stage Manager) is a junior majoring in Theatre and Drama. Last year at the Norvelle Center she served as Run Crew for An American Ma(u)l. At IU Marcie is a member of the Singing Hoosiers and Ladies First and is a National Collegiate Scholar. She has performed with Indianapolis Civic Theatre as well as working on their production staff. Marcie is from Indianapolis, Indiana.

Allison Tyra (Assistant Stage Manager) is a sophomore majoring in Theatre and Drama and Journalism. Previously at the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center she served on the run crew for The Real Thing and wardrobe crew for The Wild Party. Allison is from Indianapolis, Indiana.

Adam Noble (Movement Consultant/Fight Choreographer) is Assistant Professor of Movement/Combat for the Department of Theatre and Drama. He is also a professional actor, with credits including Shakespeare in the Park, Lincoln Center Director’s Lab, Julliard, P.S. 122, Seattle Rep, Guild Hall, and On the Boards. Adam’s most recent solo show “QUEST/ions” played in Washington and New York. In addition to his role as a professor, Adam is a dancer, martial artist, traceur, and stuntman, with movement and combat credits in the worlds of film, theatre, and opera. Adam is a member of Actors Equity Association, the Association of Theatre Movement Educators, and the Society of American Fight Directors. He has taught movement and combat in New York, California, Nebraska, Ohio, and Washington, and choreographed the violence for over 50 stage and film productions.

Nancy Lipschulz (Voice & Speech Coach), Associate Professor of Voice and Speech, has worked as an actress in New York, California, Michigan, Texas, and Chicago, including the new play series at Chicago’s Victory Gardens in High Holidays by Alan Gross, as well as overseas in London and is a veteran of six Fringe festivals in Edinburgh. She has worked on feature films, industrials, commercials, and, network television and is a member of the Screen Actors Guild, Actors’ Equity, and VASTA. Nancy has been a professor of Acting, Voice and Directing at Cornell University, Ohio Wesleyan, and Wayne State University. Directing credits include: Evita, Much Ado About Nothing, Twilight Los Angeles, and Fires in the Mirror. She recently coached the New York City Opera production of Dead Man Walking, directed by Tony Award winner Leonard Foglia, and the National Tour of Kiss Me Kate. She is the voice for Lexus GPS systems for Inter Group Corporation, Tokyo.
