Charles Railsback has been the undergraduate advisor for the Department of Theatre and Drama since 1995. He taught Introduction to the Theatre until recently.  He heads the Department’s secondary teacher certification program, having taught regularly the Methods for Teaching High School Theatre and Drama.  

Charles taught for seventeen years at Doane College where he headed the theatre program. He also founded the Doane Drama Conference for high schools where approximately 600 students and their teachers from as many as 30 Nebraska and neighboring state schools annually met to see a Doane production and participate in theatre workshops. He also developed Doane Summer Theatre, and he was a founding director of the Peace Pipe Players, the Maquoketa, Iowa community theatre. He has directed over 80 productions of a wide range of classical, modern and children’s theatre dramas. While in Nebraska he served as president of the Nebraska Theatre Association. Earlier as an actor he performed major roles in four different university repertory theatre operations.

All educational and teaching experiences, including his doctoral dissertation which focuses on the career of the leading professional theatre training educator of the twentieth century Michel Saint-Denis, join together in the work of theatre education.
