Beyond Plug and Chug: Active Learning and Critical Thinking in Life, Physical, and Social Sciences
Ballantine Hall 340

Students learn more when they have opportunities in class to take an active and cooperative role in constructing knowledge. Furthermore, these active learning moments allow students to practice disciplinary thinking in a low-stakes environment and to receive immediate feedback on their learning from their peers and instructor. Katie Kearns and staff from Campus Instructional Consulting will share strategies to engage students actively in vocabulary learning, quantitative reasoning, and procedural reasoning in sciences and social sciences disciplines. Participants will experience several techniques and discuss how they might adapt them to their own teaching.
