ERIC–HE is one of 16 Clearinghouses funded by the Department of Education as a part of the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) System. The Clearinghouse is also a Sponsored Research Project for the George Washington University. ERIC’s searchable database is called Ask ERIC.

Established as the core postsecondary education data collection program for the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), IPEDS is a system of surveys designed to collect data from all primary providers of postsecondary education. They list institutional data on students (enrollment, program completions), faculty (salaries), staff, finances, and libraries. It also features a Peer Analysis System designed to enable a user to easily compare a postsecondary institution of the userís choice to a group of peer institutions, also selected by the user.
ICED was established in Oxford, England, in 1993 to promote educational or academic development in higher education world–wide. ICED is a network whose members are themselves national organisations or networks concerned with promoting good practice in higher education. POD (see below) is the national organization for the US in ICED.
Founded in 1962, the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) is the leading international association dedicated to improving productivity and performance in the workplace. ISPI’s mission is to develop and recognize the proficiency of its members and advocate the use of Human Performance Technology. Performance technologists, training directors, human resources managers, instructional technologists, human factors practitioners, and organizational consultants are members of ISPI.
Founded in 1998, the National Academy for Academic Leadership is the first organization in the United States specifically established to provide an integrated curriculum in academic leadership. Through active involvement with The National Academy, administrators and faculty will develop the knowledge and skills to effect systemic institutional change.
Founded in 1982, the Center collects and disseminates information that will enhance the learning, success, satisfaction, retention, and graduation of college students in transitions.
NSSE is designed to obtain, on an annual basis, information from scores of colleges and universities nationwide about student participation in programs and activities that institutions provide for their learning and personal development. The results will provide an estimate of how undergraduates spend their time and what they gain from attending college. Survey items on The College Student Report represent empirically confirmed “good practices” in undergraduate education. That is, they reflect behaviors by students and institutions that are associated with desired outcomes of college. NSSE is directed by George Kuh of the IU School of Education.
Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) offers universities the tools they need to start mentor programs, seminars on college teaching and other campus–based projects that may give graduate students a better idea of what being a professor is really like. The Web site describes the types of projects that universities have started from the University of Kentucky’s course on teaching in the academy to the certificates in faculty preparation that Howard University awards. Also available is an index of resources for the job search.
POD fosters human development in higher education through faculty, instructional, and organizational development. POD believes that people have value, as individuals and as members of groups. The development of students is a fundamental purpose of higher education and requires for its success effective advising, teaching, leadership, and management. Central to POD’s philosophy is lifelong, holistic, personal, and professional learning, growth, and change for the higher education community.
