                           Mission Statement

                                                        Welcome to the website, “Spirituality and Education.” This site is produced

                                                        and maintained by a growing community of scholars, students, and

                                                        teachers at Indiana University who believe in the important connections

                                                        between spirituality and education. We maintain, in fact, that education can

                                                        not meaningfully proceed without some attention to the dimension of human

                                                        spirituality.  This site is dedicated to exploring this proposition and to

                                                        providing resources for those who wish to explore it further.

                                                        In order not to confuse spirituality with organized religion, we offer the

                                                        following in-progress definition of spirituality:

                                                        “That impulse in human experience which seeks through the cultivation of

                                                        inner awareness a greater sense of connection to, wonder toward, and

                                                        purpose in, dimensions of existence beyond the autonomous self.”
