Clinical Doctorate in Audiology [Au.D.]

The Au.D. curriculum in Audiology is designed to prepare students for their professional careers. To be awarded the Au.D. degree, students must complete at least 90 credit hours of graduate course work. The course will include 66 didactic credit hours designed to establish the theoretical and research foundations for clinical practice, together with 24 credit hours of clinical practicum (2000 hours of supervised, clinical practicum) focusing on the assessment and treatment of hearing disorders, across the age span. Clinical practicum sites include the Indiana University clinics, as well as off-campus sites in and around Bloomington. For the third-year clinical externship, out-of-state locations are possible also.

The Au.D. program takes a minimum of three years to complete, in a typical sequence of fall, spring, summer, for two years on campus, followed by a third year of fall, spring, summer of off-campus clinical externships and some didactic course work. The program sequence is standardized and varies little from student to student.

For consideration for admission to the Au.D. program, students must have a bachelors degree from an accredited university in any one of several fields, including, but not restricted to, speech and hearing sciences, psychology, biology, physics, or engineering, with a GPA of at least 3.0 and have completed the GRE. Admission is competitive and so the minimum GPA/GRE that provides for admission into the program varies from year to year.
