Parents and Family
Welcome Parents and Family!
The Office of Career Services at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs is dedicated to keeping you informed about what is available for your students in terms of services as well as ways that you can assist your student and Career Services. We are committed to helping your student's career-planning process through the following services:
- Self awareness advising using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory
- Career and occupational exploration
- Internship opportunities
- Career skill building (resume, job search strategies, networking, and interviewing)
- Graduate and professional school planning
It is the hope of our office that you will partner with us and participate in programming and special events to help your son or daughter, other current students, and alumni with networking and career exploration. If you are interested in taking part in our events, please contact us at (812)855-9639 or speacare@indiana.edu.
What can you do as a parent to help your child with their career development?
- Encourage your student to work on their career development from the first day they are in college.
- Resist the temptation to steer your child into a major because it fits your interests or what you believe to be the most employable majors. Your student will be more successful in their college career if they enjoy the classes they are taking and the work they are completing.
- Encourage your student to visit SPEA's Office of Career Services.
- Support your student's interest in volunteer or internship opportunities. Employers are not only looking at a student's major or GPA when they are reviewing candidates for a job. They are also viewing what the student has learned outside the classroom.
