Summer Opportunities

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is pleased to announce that applications are currently being accepted for the second annual Organizational Science Summer Institute (OSSI), to be held May 23-28, 2010 on the beautiful and expanding UNC Charlotte campus located in the dynamic city of Charlotte, North Carolina. If you know any rising juniors or seniors from a historically underrepresented population seeking an excellent and unique summer research opportunity, please encourage them to apply to be an Organizational Science Summer Fellow. Organizational science is an interdisciplinary discipline focusing on employee and organizational health, well-being and effectiveness. It spans disciplines including: management, communication studies, psychology, and sociology. As the demographic landscape dramatically changes, it is important that all populations have a voice and are represented in the research, study, and advancement of this important field of organizational study. The primary focus of this institute is to assist in the development of rising stars, our next generation of organizational scientists, through real research opportunities, GRE preparation, preparing for graduate school, mentoring by OS faculty and doctoral students, and insights and opportunities about leveraging an advanced degree in the academy and industry. This program seeks to populate and diversify the academic pipeline with talented students interested in studying the health and well being of organizations in various graduate programs across the country.

Our fellows are from traditionally underrepresented populations who desire to pursue an advanced degree, hopefully the Ph.D. in any Organizational Science related-discipline. The institute is a highly competitive program that selects only 10 fellows to participate in the program as to give deep and concentrated focus on graduate student life, graduate student work, research in interdisciplinary areas, intense GRE preparation, and opportunities to network with local and national scholars and other like-minded fellows for a week, as well as establish a long-lasting relationship with a doctoral faculty and student mentor at UNC Charlotte. Our inaugural institute last summer was a tremendous success and we are excited to offer this opportunity to ten more students. Some comments from our inaugural fellows:

Once the Fellows arrive at UNC Charlotte, all further expenses associated with participating in the institute will be fully covered including food, lodging, GRE training, course materials, and many other benefits associated with being an OSSI fellow. Additionally, we will provide fellows with a stipend ($300) for their participation.
