Nominations for Awards Nominating undergraduates for awards The IUB chapter of Sigma Xi has two awards for advanced undergraduates. One is to a student who excels in research. The other is for the Margaret Russell Edmondson Undergraduate Research Award in Genetics generously donated by the late Frank Edmndson in memory of his wife. Prof. Edmondson was a distinguished member and former chair of the Astronomy Dept and a strong supporter of Sigma Xi. To nominate a student for either
award, the student?s research sponsor writes a letter in support of the
student?s candidacy, and the student prepares a nomination form for
associate membership in Sigma Xi and a current vita or list of
publications and presentations. A copy of an unofficial transcript is often useful.
Nominating a teacher for the High School Science Teacher of the Year. The IUB Chapter gives an award to the High School Science Teacher of the Year. We contact all the high schools in the state requesting nominations, but nominations can come from anyone. In recent years, faculty members have nominated the teachers who received awards. We request at least one letter of nomination and, whenever possible, evidence of student support for the teacher. Please submit nominations to Al Ruesink ruesink@indiana.edu in Biology, who is chapter president. by Friday, Feb 27. | |
