Types of Aid
Students who file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are automatically considered for most federal and state grants, federal loans, and federal work-study.
- Some types of aid require additional applications/documentation, as described in the individual award profiles.
- Federal Parent PLUS Loans, Federal Graduate PLUS Loans, and private student loans always require separate applications, accessible from the individual loan pages on this website (and our home page, as well).
As a rule, most aid for a given academic term cannot disburse to a student’s Bursar account more than ten days before the beginning of that term. Aid awarded for a full academic year typically disburses in halves, one half for the fall term and one for the spring term.
With the exception of work-study, financial aid first credits to a student’s Bursar account.
- If the amount of aid exceeds a student’s charges, a refund will be issued.
- If the charges exceed the amount of aid, a balance will remain due.
- Specific questions about a student’s Bursar bill—including charges, payment options, and refunds—should be directed to the Office of the Bursar at 812-855-2636.
