For the majority of students, we provide financial aid award notifications electronically, as opposed to mailing paper award notifications. (Incoming freshmen packaged with aid before June will still receive a paper financial aid award notification, or FAN, by mail; view an example of the paper FAN.)
Students who have applied for financial aid receive an e-mail at their IUB e-mail account when their financial aid eligibility has been determined. In this e-mail, they are directed to review their financial aid information on OneStart (http://onestart.iu.edu), under the Self-Service tab (“Financial Aid upon launching the Student Center”). In this manner, students have convenient and confidential access to their most current award information.*
For loan recipients:
- If a student is awarded a Federal Perkins Loan, they will receive an e-mail from the IU Student Loan Administration (iuloans.signmyloan.com) with instructions on signing the Perkins promissory note. The promissory note must be signed before loan funds can be disbursed.
- If a student would like to reduce or cancel their loans, they should decline their loans through OneStart, contact us directly (by phone or e-mail; for the latter, click the “E-mail Us” link on our home page), or complete our Loan Cancellation/Reduction Form (under Forms).
For freshmen work-study recipients:
- Incoming freshmen must accept their work-study awards through the “Accept/Decline Financial Aid” function on OneStart; if not accepted within 60 days, the award will be cancelled. (Continuing students awarded work-study are not required to accept their award through OneStart.)
For recipients of state aid from SSACI:
- If a student receives an estimated O’Bannon/Higher Education, O’Bannon/Core 40, or O’Bannon/Honors Grant, their official award will be determined by the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI). SSACI will send an official award notification by mid-July.
- NOTE: If a student receives an O’Bannon/Higher Education Grant, O’Bannon/Core 40 Grant, O’Bannon/Honors Grant, 21st-Century Scholars Award, CVO fee remission, and/or additional tuition or fee remissions, the total amount of these awards will NOT exceed tuition and fee charges. These awards credit directly to the Office of the Bursar and are only applied towards tuition and fees.
For recipients of awards not listed in the aid summary :
- If a student is receiving any awards, scholarships, grants, fee remissions, veterans’ benefits, or other forms of assistance that do not appear on their financial aid summary, they should e-mail our office, indicating the name and amount of the award. In this way, we can add the award to the student’s aid account and make any necessary modifications to the current aid package.*
We encourage students to visit our Consumer Information section to review their rights and responsibilities as financial aid recipients.
