Submitting FAFSA before filing income tax return
March 06, 2009
Even if you’re unable to complete your Federal Income Tax Return prior to the March 1 priority date, you can estimate your income and tax information in order to submit the FAFSA as quickly as possible. You should have your w-2s, 1098 and 1099 forms available in order to enter estimated numbers. You could also use last year’s tax return and any appropriate changes to your income and tax information. What is most important is that you provide a reasonable estimate of income and taxes. Once your tax return is completed, you will be able to update your information using FAFSA on the Web.
"Check Your 'To-Do List' and IU email!"
June 05, 2007
A student's "To-Do List" is a helpful resource in determining if there is anything that must be resolved before the processing of financial aid can occur. Students can find important financial aid information, such as the status of their academic progress or the verification program by reviewing their "To-Do List" on the financial aid channel on the Self-Service tab of OneStart.
The University reserves the right to send official communications to students by email with the full expectation that students will receive email and read these emails in a timely fashion. Students are expected to check their email on a frequent and consistent basis in order to stay current with university-related communications. Students must ensure that there is sufficient space in their accounts to allow for email to be delivered. In other words, students should not allow their accounts to become full since important messages then cannot be received, but rather will be returned to the sender. Students have the responsibility to recognize that certain communications may be time-critical.
Students can designate individuals for 3rd party access to view financial aid information
March 09, 2007
Beginning in Spring 2007 students at IU Bloomington now have the ability to authorize another person, such as a parent or guardian, to view financial aid information in the Student Information System (SIS) through OneStart (https://onestart.iu.edu ). Students may revoke authorization at any time by removing permission from a third party viewer through OneStart. Please note that this authorization does not grant access to personal information through other methods, such as email or phone, but it does give this authorized person a way to see a financial aid package through the web.
To set up an authorized viewer, students should log into OneStart using their IU Network ID username and password, click the Self Service tab, and in the Personal Info channel use the "Assign Access to 3rd Parties (Parents/Guardians)" link. Students must create a unique username and password for each authorized viewer. To access the student's information the authorized viewer would click the Public Services tab in OneStart and select the "View Student Information" link, using their authorized viewer username and password.
