Chronicle of the 20th Century (CHR)
This CD allows teachers and students to
investigate the 20th century's headlining events, listen to interviews,
and interact with world events through "news in brief" pop-ups.
The Hermitage
Developed in cooperation with the staff of the Hermitage,
this series offers a look both at the collection and the fascinating history
of one of the world's premier museums. The series has two parts: "An Introduction"
gives an overview of the museum's six departments and "Treasures of the
Tsars" examines the stunning royal jewelry collection. Includes an online
text (can be viewed in either English or Russian) that covers the history
of Tsarist Russia, a comprehensive glossary, maps, and architectural overviews
(1994).
Live from Moscow: An Elementary Russian Program on CD-ROM
This 2 volume CD-ROM contains exercises and self-tests designed
for first-year Russian language students and help them improve their ability
to communicate in authentic situations: greeting people, asking questions,
using the police and informal forms of address. While the CD-ROM is intended
to be utilized with the Live from Moscow textbook and video tape,
it can be a useful tool for those seeking to independently improve their
language abilities. Produced by Kendal/ Hunt Publishing in cooperation
with Moscow Television, 1997.

35 minutes of popular songs in Russian and English. Songs include "Happy

Thaw Cinema (Interactive CD-ROM)
(Russia) Thaw Cinema includes entries on over 300 feature films
of the period, with 2000 illustrations and photographs, 70 production
sketches, 17 video fragments, 130 cinema illustrations, excerpts from
the memoirs of the film crew, periodical reviews of the period, and a
comprehensive overview article by Evgenii Margolit of NII Kinoiskusstvo
(Moscow). It was produced by Marina Trush, TEFI-awardee for her documentary
work with Naum Kleiman (Master's Home on Sergei Eisenstein)
Transparent Languages: Russian Now!
Russian language instruction package includes several titles: "Gooseberries"
32 min., 3275 words; "A Conversation Title - A Trip to Moscow," 50 min.,
4640 words; "Chechnya: the Fight for Freedom," 23 min., 2606 words;
"Beginner's Prose and Poetry" and "Side Streets of the World: Odessa,
Ukraine." Grammar/vocabulary at about 3rd or 4th-year level. No pictures
to accompany stories, but has games to learn grammar and word order,
and possibility to turn on sound and hear native speaker pronounce each
word or entire text.
Twelve Chairs Interactive (TWEL)
A multimedia Russian language course by Slava Paperno and Viktoria
Tsimberov includes three interactive CD-ROMs and a 74 page annotated
transcript of the dialog. Includes two hours of full motion video clips
from the Soviet film made in the late 1960s, a classic of Russian satire.
Click on a phrase in the transcript, and see it acted out on the screen.
Click on a word, and see the object displayed. A click of the mouse
brings up a window with a gloss. Glosses are provided for all but the
most common words, and many include notes on the post-revolutionary
