Seasonal Flu Shot Program for Students

Vaccine available again as of December 2, 2009

The annual flu shot program provided by the IU Health Center is available again with the arrival of more seasonal flu vaccine.

This is for seasonal flu vaccine, not the new H1N1 (Swine) flu. For H1N1 flu vaccine, see the IU Health Center's H1N1 Flu (swine flu) information.

The cost is $17.25 for students with the Health Fee, $21.25 for students without the Health Fee and for student spouses, partners, and dependents age 12 and older.

To make an appointment

To take advantage of this preventive medicine service, you may schedule an appointment at the IU Health Center. Call (812) 855-7688 (choose option 1).

You must have your University ID number when calling to schedule an appointment or when you register at a walk-up clinic. There is a $10.00 charge for appointment cancelled without 2 hours notice.

People at greatest risk from the seasonal flu

There are some individuals who are at serious risk if they get the flu and an annual flu shot is recommended:

  • Anyone over the age of 50

  • People with a long-term health problem such as heart, kidney or lung disease or diabetes

  • People with illnesses or medications which weakens their immune system

  • People in close contact with people in the above risk groups

  • All women who will be pregnant during the flu season (usually November-March)

The best way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated. The IU Health Center strongly recommends that all IU students get vaccinated. It's particularly important if you are in one of the aforementioned risk categories.

More information about seasonal flu vaccine can be found at www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/keyfacts.htm
