Radiation Safety Orientation

All new users need to attend the Radiation Safety Orientation. This orientation reviews the fundamentals of radiation safety and emphasizes procedures that are specific to the University. Once an individual submits an A-3 Form - Authorization to Use Radioactive Materials he/she will receive notification to register for the next orientation. This form is available on the Forms page.

Radiation Safety Course

The Radiation Safety Course covers the fundamental principals of radiation safety. It is a 10-hour course, which is offered three to four times per year, to individuals will little or no previous experience handling radioactive materials. Individuals that have submitted an A-3 Form - Authorization to Use Radioactive Materials will be notified if they need this additional training. This form is available on the Forms page.

On-line training programs are provided for specific applications. Please refer to your departmental supervisor to determine what, if any, additional training you might need. Learn more >

Refresher Training Topics

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requires annual retraining for all radiation workers. The Radiation Safety Office (RSO) distributes training topics semi-annually to all Permit Holders to be circulated among staff. The Permit Holder must confirm with the RSO that all radioactive material users working under his/her permit have been provided this training.
