Training Requirements:

Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI)
All investigators and appropriate staff engaged in animal research must complete a set of modules from the CITI Lab Animal Course every 3 years.

All SOM investigators and research staff are required to complete trainings and pass tests covering core areas. Additional test modules are required depending on the species and techniques used by the personnel. Required courses include:

Please be sure to complete the "SOM" courses.

  • SOM Working with the IACUC Course
  • SOM Reducing Pain and Distress in Laboratory Mice and Rats (if working with mice or rats on the protocol).
  • SOM Laboratory Animal Allergens
  • Other SOM modules related to specific species (rat, rabbit, mouse, etc.)

Important: Access the CITI program site through the IU ORA CITI program log-in page.

The CITI training is good for 3 years. At the time of the 3 year expiration, you will be required to reā€“take the CITI training.


Note: Completion of these requirements is necessary to work with animals. No person may work with or care for animals until official confirmation of IACUC approval.
