No Sweat! is a catch-all collective in opposition to sweatshops and corporate globalization at Indiana University. We are a local chapter of United Students Against Sweatshops, a national growing national student movement present at over 200 universities countrywide. 2005 Fall Semester Meetings: Weekly meetings will be held on Tuesdays in Ballantine Hall, Room 141 at 8:00pm. Please stop by if you're interested! For more information or questions, contact us. No Sweat! ideology
Student power rests in our leverage on campus. We are consumers of the business of higher education
(Unfortunately, universities actively seek to blur any distinction between their goals and those of
corporations). University administrations must uphold an image (they are quite superficial). They buckle
easily under the pressure to draw attention to issues and threaten university pocketbooks to emphasize the
urgency of our demands. How we are is just as important as what we are. We cannot fight da man if our group dynamics tolerate bias and discrimination. We actively seek an inclusive atmosphere and decision making process. No hierarchy! No Sweat! functions by consensus. Consensus decision-making is the heart of what makes groups more effective than individuals. Its special value is seen in the quality of decisions reached and the acceptance of and relative ease of implementation of decision. "A decision in which everyone participates and which everyone can live with and support." Remember:
