Language Book Reviews
Book reviews are commissioned by the editors of Language and are published in the print journal. Book notices are written by volunteers and are, beginning soon, to be published online at the eLanguage website rather than in the print journal.
Below is a link to the lists of books currently available for 500-word book notices. The opportunity to write book notices (see policy note #1) is offered to all readers of Language whether or not they are LSA members, though the editors of Language and eLanguage reserve the right to decline to send books to volunteers whose previous book notices have presented substantive or stylistic problems that increase the time required for editing. Prospective Book Notice writers are encouraged to seek out books in their areas of expertise (as opposed to their areas of interest). Students are also encouraged to write book notices, though a faculty supervisor must agree to approve the book notice before it is submitted to the editor (see policy note #7 ). Book notices are due within three months after the reviewer receives the book; this insures that works are reviewed in a timely fashion. Contributors should familiarize themselves with Language style and policy on notices and reviews. Particular information about Language Book Reviews policy as regards book publishers is found in policy note #11.
