Kinsey Institute Researchers Receive 2009 Reiss Theory Award
Kinsey Institute researchers received the 2009 Ira and Harriet Reiss Theory Award from the Foundation for the Scientific Study of Sexuality for their publication, "Women's Scores on the Sexual Inhibition / Sexual Excitation Scales: Gender Similarities and Differences." Co-authors of the paper are Dr. Deanna Carpenter, Dr. Erick Janssen, Dr. Cynthia Graham, Dr. Harrie Vorst, and Dr. Jelte Wicherts. The Sexual Inhibition / Sexual Excitation scales utilise the dual control model of sexual response developed at The Kinsey Institute. Call for Proposals - Kinsey Institute Student Research Grants 2009-2010
The Kinsey Institute Student Research Grants 2009-2010 confers up to six sexuality research grants to emerging scholars (three at IU, and three at other universities) and seeks to fund significant and innovative research, from a wide array of disciplines and perspectives, that deals with human sexuality. Proposals are now being accepted electronically. The deadline for submission of proposal materials will be November 15, 2009. For more information, please visit the Student Research Grant page.

Applications Open for John Money Fellowship
The John Money Fellowship for Scholars of Sexology supports the work of graduate students whose research can benefit from using the collections of The Kinsey Institute. Applications are encouraged from all students enrolled in a graduate program in the United States and whose interests concern the history, politics, methodology of sexology and sexuality studies. Kinsey Confidential Unveils New Look
Kinsey Confidential, our sexuality information service designed for college-age adults, now looks better than ever. The redesigned KC site features current news and research blogs, book reviews, in-depth information on sex and gender topics, and questions and answers provided through podcasts and a weekly syndicated newspaper column. www.kinseyconfidential.org

KI Presents Podcasts Now Available on iTunes and IU Podcast
You can now find all the "KI Presents: Conversations with Sex Researchers" podcasts through the iTunes store, or through the Indiana University podcast service, IU Podcasts. Search for "kinsey institute" or "kinsey institute presents."

New Research Publications Available
Visit this KI newsletter article for a list of some new studies released by Kinsey Institute researchers and affiliated faculty, and a brief look at two new books by KI Associate Scientist Dr. Erick Janssen, and affiliated IU faculty member Dr. Debby Herbenick.

KI Researcher Studies Hormonal Variations in Rural Bolivian Men and Women
Senior Scientist Dr. Virginia J. Vitzthum is a member of a research team working with indigenous populations in rural Bolivia to investigate the effects of harsh environment and living conditions on the fluctations of hormones in men and women. The team has recently published two studies: one on testosterone levels in the men (available online here), and another on the seasonal variations in conception rates and early pregnancy loss in women (available online here).

KI Scientists Receive Grant for Postpartum Depression Research
A research team headed by KI Assistant Scientist Dr. Heather Rupp has recieved a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to study the mechanisms behind postpartum depression. Postpartum depression affects 10-15% of new mothers and can interfere with their ability to care for their babies and themselves.
