About Us


The Indiana University Student Association (IUSA) is the undergraduate student body government at Indiana University - Bloomington. At its core, IUSA is a congregation of students that work to protect student rights, enrich student life, and improve the University as a whole. Students join together to voice common concerns, hopes, grievances, and most importantly, to take action to realize an even stronger community.

Executive Branch

The Executive Branch is led by the Student Body President of the Indiana University Student Association in conjunction with the Student Body Vice-President of Administration, Student Body Vice-President of Congress, and the Student Body Treasurer. The Executive Branch is tasked at executing of all actions assigned by Congress as prescribed by the IUSA Constitution in addition to any initiatives developed internally by members of the executive staff. The Executive Branch is comprised of four executives, more than ten chiefs, and over sixty directors and committee members.

JUSTIN KINGSOLVER | Student Body President

Justin Kingsolver from Fishers, Indiana is a senior majoring in political science, international studies, and the Liberal Arts and Management Program (LAMP). After serving as Student Body President at Hamilton Southeastern High School, during his freshman year, he served as a Representative in the IUSA Congress representing the College of Arts and Sciences, becoming the youngest Speaker of Congress in a decade. Having interned at Barnes & Thornburg LLP, Justin is interested in a career in the law, and will most likely be attending law school next year. Losing his first IUSA presidential election in 2010, Justin ran again with the victorious Big Ten Ticket in the 2011 elections, securing victory with 53 percent of the vote in a three-way race. Justin currently represents the IU student body on the IU Athletics Committee, the Bloomington Faculty Council, the Campus Recreational Sports Advisory Board, and the Capital Priorities Committee.

KEVIN COURTNEY | Student Body Vice-President of Administration

Kevin Courtney is the Student Body Vice-President. He is a senior majoring in Health Administration and minoring in Biology and Business. Kevin is from Carmel, IN and attended Carmel High School. Prior to IUSA, Kevin was involved in a variety of student organizations on campus. He is heavily involved in the school's Greek Community. As a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Kevin has held the President position, as well as other major roles within the organization. In addition, he served as the Vice-President of Member Development for the Interfraternity Council. Kevin is also very involved in philanthropic organizations on campus. He has been a three-year member of IU Dance Marathon and has been on a service trip to Honduras with IU Global Public Health Brigade last spring and will attend another trip to Ghana this coming winter. During his undergraduate career Kevin has been an intern at Eli Lilly & Co. in Indianapolis and The Coca-Cola Company in Cairo, Egypt.

STEPHANIE KOHLS | Student Body Vice-President for Congress

Stephanie Kohls is the Vice-President for Congress for IUSA. Her roles include serving as a direct link between Congress and the executive branch as well as collaborating to execute other initiatives. A junior majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in Psychology, she is from Fishers, Indiana and served as President of her class at Fishers High School. Outside of IUSA, Stephanie is an executive for her sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi, and the Vice-President of College Mentors for Kids, an organization bringing at-risk youth to campus and encouraging them to seek higher education. Stephanie has also been an active member of the Indiana University Student Foundation.

KYLE STRAUB | Student Body Treasurer

Kyle Straub proudly serves as Student Body Treasurer, managing an administrative budget of over $200,000 and working closely with the rest of the IUSA team to implement various initiatives across campus and within the community. From Carmel, Indiana, he is a Business Honors Program junior majoring in Finance and Operations/Supply Chain Management within the Kelley School of Business. Prior to joining student government this year, he choreographed for and performed with the Singing Hoosiers show choir as well as served as Pledge-Class President and Director of Diversity of the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. He is also active in Out @ Kelley, Kelley Student Ambassadors, and the Consulting Workshop. Having studied abroad in both Chile and Spain, Kyle hopes to utilize his Spanish proficiency internationally after graduation in a career in consulting.

MEGAN LILLIE | Chief of Staff

Megan is a senior majoring in Media Communications with minors in Business and History. Megan is from Fort Wayne, Indiana and attended Carroll High School. She has been involved with IUSA since her sophomore year when she served as a Congress representative for off-campus students. She also served as Director of Communications for IUSA during the previous administration, working with the press and promoting initiatives on campus. As Co- Chief of Staff, Megan manages the entire executive branch of IUSA and oversees the implementation of policies being proposed throughout the school year. Megan has also been involved with the Indiana University Student Foundation and the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. During the summer of 2011, Megan interned at Raff Media as a Publicist Intern. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in publishing or as a press director for a political office.

PAT COURTNEY | Deputy Chief of Staff

Pat Courtney is a junior majoring in Finance and Accounting in the Kelley School of Business. He has been involved in IUSA since his freshman year when he served as a Congress representative for the University Division. As Deputy Chief of Staff, Pat works closely with Co-Chief of Staff Megan Lillie to oversee various programs and projects within the administration. He also helps connect IUSA with external administrators and faculty members. Outside of IUSA, Pat is heavily involved in other organizations on campus including the Indiana University Dance Marathon where he is an active member on the Riley Development Committee. He also serves as a Chair in the Kelley Student Government and volunteers his time with the Indiana University Tour Guide Program.

AUGUSTIN RUTA | Chief of Internal Affairs

Augustin Ruta is the Chief of Internal Affairs for IUSA. Augustin oversees several committees within the organization, such as Campus Safety and Governmental Affairs. Augustin also works with the New Initiatives department to implement new projects throughout the year. Prior to joining IUSA, he was Treasurer of Kelley Student Government and served on the executive board of the Kelley Living Learning Center. Augustin works closely with several faculty from the Kelley School as a student representative on Undergraduate Policy Committee and Kelley's Student Advisory Task-Force. He is also active in Student Business Ambassadors and Sigma Chi Fraternity. A junior from Chaska, MN, Augustin is majoring in Finance and Accounting. His interests include running, country music, and golf.

RUDY ELLIS | Chief of External Affairs

Rudy Ellis of Louisville, Kentucky is Chief of External Affairs for IUSA. Rudy is a senior majoring in Public Relations with a minor in Marketing. As an active member of his fraternity, Kappa Sigma, Rudy has organized dancers for IUDM for the past two years as a DGR while also serving as the chapter’s Social Chair. He has experience working with top politicians in his home state, helping his local congresswoman win in the past mid-term election. Over the summer, he played a crucial role in constituent relations for Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in Washington, D.C. as his Health and Education intern.

JARAD WINGET | Chief of Intergovernmental Affairs

Jarad Winget serves as IUSA's Chief of Intergovernmental Affairs. In this capacity, he directs the IUSA Legislative Affairs Department, litigates on behalf of the executive branch in judicial proceedings, and conducts internal policy research initiatives. He currently leads efforts to reform internal regulations including the IUSA bylaws and election code as well as efforts to reform student rights in the campus judicial system. Finally, he serves as the Executive Director of the Vision of the Ideal College Environment (VOICE) Report Steering Committee and sits on three campus committees including Parking Appeals, Web Maintenance, and Student Legal Services. In addition to IUSA, Jarad is Editor-in-Chief of The Conservative Student, an online blog dedicated to voicing the opinion of conservative students throughout the country. He is also a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.

NIKKI SUSECK | Chief of Communications

Nikki Suseck is the Chief of Communications for IUSA and oversees all marketing and advertising that occurs within the administration.  She and her team work closely with the outside press outlets and ensure that the Indiana University student body is properly marketed.  Originating from Flemington, New Jersey, she is a senior majoring in Communications and Culture focusing on Media Communications as well as minoring in Marketing and Spanish.  Within the IU Student Government Nikki started her involvement as a freshman intern in 2008 and progressed to be a Director of Communications before serving as Chief of Communications.  Outside of IUSA, Nikki is a Marketing Intern for the Student Life and Learning Office, a Marketing Chair for the Indiana University Student Foundation, and serves on the Indiana University Publications Board.  Nikki has also been actively involved in the media industry, completing two marketing and publicity internships for Discovery Communications in New York City.  After graduation, Nikki plans to move back to the east coast and embark on a career in Sales/Marketing.

KEANE MAYER | Chief of Policy

Keane Mayer is a sophomore majoring in Accounting and Finance at Indiana University. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, he completed the first two years of his degree at a local community college near home. During his time there, Keane represented students as a senator in student government while also working in the school’s writing center and volunteering. This year, he transferred to IU and has since become involved in IUSA as Chief of Policy. In addition to student government, Keane works as a teacher’s assistant for Business Law (L201), volunteers at the Bloomington Animal Care Center, and is a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
