Sgt. Tim Lewis Memorial Fund
While an undergraduate at Indiana University Bloomington, Tim applied to the IUPD academy and was accepted into the Cadet program. After graduating from the IUPD Police Academy and completing two years as a Part Time Officer (PTO) Tim applied to the IUPD as a Full Time Officer, a position he went on to fill for the next thirty years. Over the course of his time at IUPD, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, later accepting a voluntary reduction in rank so that he could serve in the Technical Services division. Tim spent eight years as a Sergeant in the Technical Services division of IUPD before transferring back to the Uniform Division.
In his honor, we have established a fund that will allow friends, family, and the general public to make donations in Sgt. Lewis's name. These funds will be used exclusively to enhance and improve the IUPD Police Academy, a program he held in high esteem.
Goals of the fund include purchasing sufficient concealable body armor to equip all Part-Time Officers with life-saving Kevlar™ armor at no cost to them. Further, we also hope to purchase enough GLOCK 17 and 19 weapons to outfit the PTO's, as well as leather duty gear. Currently, all PTO's must supply their gear at their own cost, with expenses usually exceeding $1000 per PTO.
With your help, we can honor the memory of Sgt. Lewis by helping train future generations of police officers.
