Bicycle Patrol
![]() |
The Bicycle Patrol consists of approximately 20 Officers and they serve as a subsection of the Uniform Division. Members of the Bicycle Patrol can usually respond to calls for assistance faster than motor units due to the geography of campus. The Bicycle Patrol is currently operating on Trek front suspension and Univega full suspension mountain bikes. |
Field Training Unit
The Field Training Unit is responsible for training the new officers after they have completed the state mandated police academy. Please visit their page.
Investigative Division
The Investigative Division is responsible for conducting in-depth investigations into a variety of offenses. Members of the Investigative Division are highly trained in their respective specialties and are all "seasoned" Officers.
Records Division
This Division provides the administrative support and is responsible for maintaining the files and important documents of the department. In addition to clerical duties, this Division is often the point of first contact with the public when they enter the Police Department. They serve by assisting the public in obtaining reports and information.
Telecommunications
Dispatchers are a vital link between the public and the Officers. They are responsible for notifying Officers where help is needed as well as a myriad of other responsibilities. Dispatchers also answer all the 911 calls from on-campus phones and serve as IDACS/NCIC operators.
Training Division
The Training Division's primary responsibility is to provide training opportunities to the Officers of the department throughout the year. It is not unusal for the Training Division to coordinate and/or provide over 15,000 hours of training a year for the departmental personnel. The Training Division is also responsible for the Cadet-Officer Program and Police Academy and the direct supervision of those participants.
Uniform Division
The Uniform Division provides the primary function of protecting life and property on the IU campus and surrounding area. The other divisions serve to provide support for the Uniform Division in the performance of its duties. Officers in the Uniform Division either patrol on foot, in a squad car, or on a bicycle.
