The purpose of this page is to celebrate and unify former members of IU debate. We are in the early stages of collecting information on what surely will prove to be a vast web of successful people. The goal of reestablishing lines of communication with our alumni is to rebuild a sense of debate's history on our beloved campus. Debaters present wish to reconnect with stories of yesteryear's battles against all too familiar foes.

To assist with the project, former alumni should contact the team and if possible their former teammates. We would love to know how important debate was in helping you succeed whereaver your life's path took you.

Mike Maguire	1992-1993	In his second term as Mayor of Eagan, Minnesota. Mike Maguire has served on the City Council since January of 2003 and as Mayor since 2007. Completed doctoral course work in Speech Communication and American Studies at Indiana University.
Todd McDorman	1992-1994	Coached our first NDT tournament team.1998 completed his PhD. from IU Comm. and Culture with a focus on rhetorical studies. Presently an Associate Professor of Rhetoric at Wabash College.

Larry Medcalf	1977-1978	Prof. Communication Studies at San Francisco State University. San Francisco State University Director of Forensics for 12 years. Former Chair of SFSU Department of Speech and Communications.
Dayle Hardy-Short	1979-1984	Northern Arizona Professor in the School of Communication. Specific research interests include Environmental Rhetoric, Political Communication, Gender Studies School of Communication.

Jon H. Amsbary	1978-1981	Jonathan Howard Amsbary isan associate professor in the department of Communication Studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. 1980 MA and 1986 PhD from Speech Communication.
Dirk C. Gibson	1978-?	PhD, Associate Professor of Mass Communication in the Department of Comm. and Journalism at the University of Mexico. His specialty includes rhetorical analysis of Jack the Ripper and the rhetoric of serial murder cases.

R. Scott Potter	1980	Native of Jeffersonville, IN. He is a graduate of Indiana University (1981) and Indiana University School of Medicine (1985). He completed his Family Practice Residency at St. Vincent Hospital and is Board Certified in Family Medicine (ABFP 1988, 1995). Dr. Potter and his family resie in Northwest Indianapolis.

Ms. Perr has extensive experience in market research, international marketing, and technical marketing, with over 20 years of marketing experience for Pierce Biotechnology, Perbio Sciences, and Fisher Scientific. Betsey Wells Edwards	1979-1980	The Director of Development for Preservation Virginia. Since leaving IU, Betsy spent her career in public relations, marketing and fundraising. Her job experience includes PR positions in Indiana and Virginia state government. For eight years she ran her own PR/marketing consulting firm. For the past 10 years She worked in management and development positions for three non-profits. She is the author of "Virginia Country: Inside the Private Historic Homes of the Old Dominion," Simon & Schuster 1998. Debate Reflections: "My experience as a debater at IU has been invaluable in my PR and fundraising career. Virtually every day I realize that critical thinking, persuasion, research, communication, teamwork are all skills I learned as a debater. Twice a year I judge informal debates in my husband's community college English classes. As I watch these young people form arguments – I wish that all high school and college students could be exposed to debate."
