About Us
We are a medium-sized department, composed of 38 professors, about 100 graduate students, and an undergraduate Physics major population that has doubled in number in the past five years. We have a strong academic program offering undergraduate degrees (B.A., B.Sc.) and graduate degrees (Ph.D., M.A.T., M.S.).
Our world-class faculty strives to develop a strong teaching and research environment, and the positive atmosphere in our department fosters learning and research in several
disciplines of physics. We currently have nationally ranked groups
carrying out research in particle physics, nuclear physics,
astrophysics, cosmology, condensed matter physics and material science,
biophysics, and accelerator physics. Research activities are also
channeled via institutes and centers such as the Biocomplexity
Institute, the Nuclear Theory Center, the Center for Spacetime
Symmetries, and the Center for Exploration of Energy and Matter (CEEM),
housed at the Integrated Science and Technology Hall (ISAT, formerly the
IU Cyclotron Facility).
