Magdalene Odundo
Kenyan (active in England), born 1950
Untitled #4, 1995
Clay
Gift of Herman B Wells, IUAM 96.9

Odundo’s hand-built vessels, admired for their simple, elegant forms and carefully burnished surfaces, were first shown in the United States in 1991 and soon became sought after by museums and collectors of contemporary ceramics and African art. Dr. Wells’s generosity made it possible for the museum to acquire this vessel, which was part of a traveling exhibition of her recent work that the museum hosted in 1997.
