Student Support

Practicums/Internships
Internships are available for qualified IU undergraduates of at least junior standing through the Professional Practice Program. Students may arrange for credit under Fine Arts Y398 or Anthropology A408. The museum prefers that a student take at least three credit hours per practicum (equivalent to nine hours per week of work time). Arrangements must be made with the museum and the studentís advisor prior to registration. Interested students should complete an application, available from the museum receptionist (812-855-5445).

Internships and practicum positions at the Art Museum generally carry no wages or stipends.

Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships
The museum normally has a limited number of graduate assistantships available to qualified IU graduate students for the academic year. Deadlines for applications coincide with those for the Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts assistantships; applications are generally due at the beginning of the spring semester. Check the History of Art graduate bulletin board for position announcements and application procedures. Because the museum may renew graduate assistantships, sometimes no new positions will be available. Assistantships carry a stipend and fee remission.

The museum occasionally has fellowship positions available to qualified graduate students for the academic year. Deadlines and application procedures are the same as those of the graduate assistant positions. Fellowships have a stipend, but usually do not carry a fee remission. Because some fellowships are only offered for short-term special projects, the number, types, and stipends of fellowship positions vary from year to year.

For more information on available assistantships and fellowships, contact Diane Pelrine, associate director for curatorial services, by phone at (812) 855-1036, or by e-mail at dpelrine@indiana.edu.
