Indiana University Art Museum, 98.569

This figure, whose legs were destroyed by fire, may have been part of a male/female pair used in a powerful Senufo women's divination society. Such figures are considered the physical representatives of the bush spirits believed to be the chief source of a diviner's power, as well as the source of both success and misfortune for Senufo individuals.
