The frequent appearance of the crocodile god suggests that it must have represented an important deity or concept in Coclé religion. Although we do not know the specific significance of the animal for Coclé culture, its ferocious nature makes it a powerful symbol. The pendant's form also may have been important, for it has been carved to resemble other pendants made from whale teeth that do not depict the crocodile god.
