Teachers and Students in the Gallery

The Indiana University Art Museum welcomes people of all ages to visit its exhibitions, plan docent-led tours, use teaching resources, and participate in a wide range of educational programming.

For more information on education programs, please call the museum’s education office at (812) 855-1045. The museum’s monthly calendar lists many other special events which also may be of interest to you. Please call (812) 855-5445 to be placed on the museum’s mailing list.

General Information
The Indiana University Art Museum is located at the heart of the Bloomington campus on East Seventh Street, adjacent to Showalter Fountain. Admission is always free.

Permanent Collection
Our permanent collection includes works of art from all media, historical periods, art movements, and areas of the world. The museum’s education department can provide tours, gallery sessions, and/or programs in any of the following areas:

First Floor
Art of the Western World from Early Medieval to the Present
Byzantine, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries

Second Floor
Arts of Asia and the Ancient Western World
Ancient Near Eastern, Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan, Roman, Indian, Islamic, Nepalese and Tibetan, Southeast Asian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese

Third Floor
Raymond and Laura Wielgus Gallery
Arts of Africa, the South Pacific, and the Americas
Ancient Americas, Polynesian, Melanesian, Indonesian, African

Automobile Parking
Available within easy walking distance at pay lots on Jordan Avenue (east of the museum) as well as the Indiana Memorial Union (bring your parking check to the museum to be validated for a discount). Museum visitors can park for free (without a permit) on Saturdays at the Wells Library and Art Museum lots, and on Saturdays and Sundays in the parking garages on Jordan Avenue (across from the Musical Arts Center) and Fee Lane (behind the IU Kelley School of Business).

Bus Drivers
Should enter Seventh Street from the west and ask the attendant in the gatehouse for details regarding parking.

Museum Hours
Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closed Mondays and major holidays.

Schedule a Tour! 
Call the museum’s tour coordinator at (812) 855-7719.
Call to schedule at least three weeks in advance for a docent-led tour.
Call to schedule at least four weeks in advance for a customized, curriculum-structured tour.
Call ahead to inform us of any group visit to the galleries.
There is no charge for admission or a guided tour.

Customized Youth Tours
The museum’s education department can customize interactive tours around various disciplines, themes, issues, and ideas expressed in a class curriculum, such as science, math, history, geography, animals, storytelling, art fundamentals, geography, or world religions, to name a few. Some of the tours and programs we provide for various schools include:

Treasure hunts through the collection
Drawing and/or writing in the galleries
Tours of historical buildings and limestone carving on campus
Tours of the famous Thomas Hart Benton murals
Tours of Indiana art on campus
Foreign language tours

We enjoy a challenge!  There are dozens of tours and programs on file!
