Announcement of the Philosophy of Music Education International Symposium 5

June 4-7, 2003
Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, Illinois, U.S.A.

The Fifth International Symposium on the Philosophy of Music Education will be held at Lake Forest College, a small liberal arts college situated beautifully in a prosperous northern suburb of Chicago and within walking distance of the western shore of Lake Michigan.

Participants will enjoy a delightful setting conducive to reflection and conversation about important issues pertaining to music education in our time.  The residential atmosphere will provide an opportunity to converse in a relaxed atmosphere and participate in papers and responses that will open a stimulating dialogue.  Our symposium will be within easy reach of Ravinia, site of summer concerts by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Chicago, about an hour from the downtown by train and half-hour from Chicago O'Hare Airport (when the traffic flows).  The symposium program will enable participants to take advantage of Chicago area cultural opportunities and allow ample time for informal conversation.

The Symposium is organized by an international group elected at the Fourth International Symposium in Birmingham, England, and augmented by others.  The organizing committee is led by Estelle Jorgensen.  Committee members are:  Deanne Bogdan, David Elliott, Forest Hansen, Frank Heuser, Charlene Morton, Masafumi Ogawa, Anthony Palmer, Mary Reichling, Bennett Reimer, June Boyce Tillman, Paul Woodford, and Iris Yob. The program committee will be co-chaired by Iris Yob and Frank Heuser.

All papers will be refereed, and papers accepted for the Symposium are eligible for publication in the Philosophy of Music Education Review.
