Welcome to the Instructed Second Language Acquisition Laboratory at IU

Research in our lab focuses on the investigation of factors affecting second language acquisition that take place in instructed contexts. Our aim is to contribute to the body of knowledge that will lead to effective teaching methods as well as to understand how people learn an additional language under instructed conditions. In our projects, we have mostly focused on the acquisition of English, Spanish, and Turkish as second languages. If you are interested in participating in our lab activities, please contact Dr. Yucel Yilmaz

Our projects have examined a range of topics including:

Negative feedback

Four arrows rotating in a circle indicating feedback

Task effects

Puzzle piece representing task based language teaching

Computer-mediated communication and instruction

Computer screen symbolizing Computer Mediated Communication

Cognitive individual differences in instructed second language acquisition

A brain with a graph symbolizing individual differences
