June 21 - July 13 |
STARTALK-SIPHUR 2012 is a three and a half-week summer intensive program that runs from June 21 to July 13. High school students and a small number of college students are the main targets for STARTALK-SIPHUR 2012. The intensive summer residential program is open to Indian/Pakistani heritage and non-heritage students. We had students attending from 10 different states last year.
The main components of the program will be:
in-class instruction, extra-curricular activities (Film songs, Rangoli/Henna/Rakhi/ Davatnama, and Drama), video-conferencing, evening culture classes, and Saturday field trips. In addition to this, there will be late evening study groups meeting which will be led and supervised by tutors. There will be diversity in
the cultural and religious backgrounds of heritage and non-heritage students.
The goals of the summer program will align with |
|
the goals outlined in the Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century, focusing on all three modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational), connection, culture, comparison, and community. Our program will also differentiate curriculum and instruction to accommodate a range of learners with different linguistic and cultural competencies, backgrounds and ages. To suit students’ different needs, we will arrange for multiple classes by level and language.
Accepted students will receive a scholarship of $1,800 which will be used to pay for tuition fees and room & board. Participants will receive three college credits upon completion of the program.
Acceptance into the program is on a rolling basis, so we urge you to apply at your earliest convenience.
