Program Mission Statement
The Hudson & Holland Scholars Program (HHSP) serves as an integral part of Indiana University’s efforts to foster benefits of educational diversity by assuring the obtainment of a critical mass of students from historically underrepresented backgrounds with a history of discrimination. The mission of HHSP is to recruit, retain and prepare students with outstanding records of academic achievement, strong leadership experience, and a commitment to service and social justice to be responsible citizens and future leaders of tomorrow.
Program Goals
To increase the number of high achieving students with a commitment to social justice and leadership to the Bloomington campus and into theHudson & Holland Scholars Program through active and purposeful recruitment
To continue to increase overall program graduation rate of Scholars through educational, personal, and professional development
To continue training and preparation of all Scholars for successful post-baccalaureate placement in a professional vocation, graduate or professional school
LSAMP Gre Test Preparation Scholarship
The following scholarship is available to all students involved in a DEMA scholarship program majoring in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The voucher for the GRE preparation course must be used by August 2012.

We are proud to announce that a new Scholar Spotlight has been added to the Office of Scholarships website featuring Lauren McKinney! Lauren is a freshman from Indianapolis, and majoring in Speech and Hearing Sciences with a minor in African American & African Diaspora Studies and American Sign Language. She is a recipient of the Herbert Presidential Scholarship and the Hudson and Holland Scholarship, and a member of the Hutton Honors College. We are proud to announce that a new Scholar Spotlight has been added to the Office of Scholarships website website featuring Priyanka Dubé! Priyanka is a junior from Carmel, Indiana who is majoring in Spanish and Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Priyanka is also a Hudson and Holland Scholar and is involved with The South Asian Philanthropy Project. We are proud to announce that a new Scholar Spotlight has been added to the Office of Scholarships website Gigi Galloway is a sophomore from Indianapolis, and majoring in Public Policy Management with a minor in Human Resources. HHSP would like to recognize Tonya Mitchell for her success both inside and outside the classroom. Tonya is in her second year as Drum Major of the Marching Hundred. Tonya is a senior Music Education major in the Jacobs School of Music.
Mercedez McDowell (not pictured) is one of 5 individuals to receive the Indiana University Commission on Multicultural Understanding (COMU) Award. This year, Mercedez McDowell, a native of Indianapolis and an individualized major student, led a charge to change Indiana University Student Association's regulation to deny funding for religious organizations. In 2010, her funding request for IU's Impact Movement to attend the Impact Nationals was denied based on the fact that it was a religious organization. After composing a letter of dissatisfaction and disappointment that student groups were not given equal access to funding, McDowell, along with support from the Alliance Defense Fund, successfully campaigned for student fees to be distributed on a "viewpoint neutral" basis. McDowell's commitment to justice and fairness exemplifies the goals of COMU and the spirit of diversity.
