Highlights
Techniques for Teaching from a Global Perspective: A Practical Workshop for Pre-Service & In-Service Teachers – October 11, 2014, Indian University School of Education. This workshop will introduce skills that will help teachers internationalize their classrooms and provide useful resources for teachers interested in continuing to build upon their global toolset. The Center for the Study of Global Change will present on how to internationalize Indiana academic standards during the 1:30-3 p.m. session.
Global Moral Panics Symposium – October 10-11, 2014, IUB campus. Supported by the Global Center, this two-day conference brings together scholars from diverse fields to explore issues hyped in the media and public discourse that crystallize a problem of geopolitical inequity, such as human trafficking, piracy, epidemics, child soldiering, and climate change. Of special interest to faculty and graduate students interested in global social justice.
Globalization of the United States, 1789-1861 – October 10, 2014, Lilly Library. Lead by Konstantin Dierks and supported by the Global Center, this one-day symposium accompanies a Lilly Library exhibition through December. Eight scholars explore how the U.S. recalibrated its relationship with the wider world after leaving the British empire, highlighting a historical reality of stubborn limits to global knowledge, global ambition, and global reach.
