Brendan Gillis -- E104 Associate Instructor

I am a PhD student in the history department.  My research focuses on eighteenth-century Britain and its empire, ranging from India to the Caribbean .   I use subjects including the licensing of public houses and early efforts to control opium to study cultures of law and government .  I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, and, before coming to Bloomington, I studied history at Harvard and Cambridge University.  While living in England, I also spent a year managing a choir.
