The Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology is fortunate to have a remarkable community of alumni, a group of people deeply affected by their passage through our program and committed, most often for life, to advancing appreciation of traditional forms of performance and thought as they are manifest in the cultures of the world's societies.

Alumni: 1999 AFS MeetingOur alumni are active in university settings as teachers, researchers, administrators, librarians, archivists — you name it. They are doing important public outreach in a host of governmental, community, and private settings. They constitute the very backbone of professional associations such as the American Folklore Society and the Society for Ethnomusicology.

The purpose of this page is to establish an easy connection to our far-flung alumni so that they may know what we are doing and we may hear what they are doing. To serve these ends, we will publish on this page highlights from Traditions, as well as news from alumni, to be updated on a monthly basis. In turn, we provide here a handy e-mail link and humbly request that you send us news and information about alumni doings.

And so, we offer a toast to our alumni, both fresh and seasoned, and we urge you to stay in touch with your alma mater, the mother ship, the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology. Should you wish to join our primary mailing list, just let us know and we'll add you to it.

The Department of Folklore & Ethnomusicology has a large e-mail list that includes our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends. We periodically post information on jobs, lectures, and other notices pertinent to the department and the field. If you would like to join our list, please send an e-mail to:
