Undergraduate Studies in Folklore

Our undergraduate program consists of two branches: a group of service classes, including large introductory classes that introduce undergraduates to the study of folklore; and a curriculum designed for our undergraduate majors. We conceive of our undergraduate program as a funnel, broad at the mouth but narrowing as one moves along its channels.

Undergraduate majors in folklore move from the introductory classes to mid-level classes dealing with genres of folklore and folklore as expressed in different human communities. They finish with the senior seminar, which gives them a chance to pursue individual research under faculty supervision.
