Undergraduate Degree Requirements

B.A. degrees in majors within the College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) usually require a minimum of 122 credits hours consisting of general COAS requirements and 30 credits within the major department. Please consult the COAS Undergraduate Bulletin for specific COAS and departmental requirements.

Two 300-level courses
F401 (Methods and Theories)
F497
One additional 400-level course
A maximum of 6 credit hours at the 100 level
A maximum of two approved course from other disciplines for students completing a single major in folklore.
Students completing a double major must consult with advisors in each major regarding stipulations.

Undergraduate minors are required to complete at least 15 credit hours of coursework in the department, including:

F401 (Methods and Theories)
One 300 level course
Three additional courses with no more than two at the 100 level

We are now developing concentrations in Public Arts and Culture, Diversity in the United States, The Art of Performance, and Media and Technology. Students pursuing these concentrations must meet these additional stipulation.

At least 6 credit hours of their departmental requirement must pertain to the concentration
3 of their credit hours outside the department must relate to their concentration
The F497 senior thesis must address their concentration

An Interdepartmental Major
A Minor in Folklore or Ethnomusicology
An Outside Concentration in Folklore or Ethnomusicology
