Bridges: Children, Languages, World

Exploring World Languages and Cultures

Bridges: Children, Languages, World is a project that offers exploratory language and culture classes to young learners in the greater Bloomington, Indiana area. Knowing that learning world language at an early age enhances linguistic ability overall, the central goal of Bridges is to ignite interest in learning about different languages and cultures and inspire children to pursue both with excitement and enthusiasm all their lives.

Mission Statement

Bridges' mission is to provide quality language and culture instruction to young learners in community settings.  Bridges also offers professional development opportunities for IU language students of Less-Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL) who serve as instructors and volunteers.  Bridges classes expose young learners and their instructors with a rewarding, safe environment to obtain new skills and gain confidence in their ability to participate in the learning/teaching process, reflecting the increasingly diverse and interconnected world in order to cultivate a new generation of internationally-minded citizens.

EASC and Bridges

An important part of our mission at EASC is the promotion of programs that introduce community members to East Asian languages and cultures. It is with this constant goal in mind that we proudly support the Bridges program in introducing elementary children to the world's languages.
