Realizing King's dream in the "fierce urgency of now"
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
2014 MLK Celebration Essay Contest
Deadline Friday, November 22, 2013
This year commemorates the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 1963 "I Have A Dream" speech. President Barak Obama recently reminded us that King's ideas were "words for the ages": responsibility lies with current generations to continue King's legacy and heed the "fierce urgency of now."
The MLK Day Essay Contest Committee, in conjunction with the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs (DEMA), invites IU Bloomington students to submit an original written or video essay that draws on their experience to respond to this question:
What is your dream for our future? Write your own "I Have a Dream" speech and explain what actions you will take to help realize that dream.
Successful essays will answer the question, and refer specifically not only to the writer's personal experience and observations but also to the original text of Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech.
