Latino Studies Reading Group call for participants

Saturday, September 28, 2013

Professors and graduate students across a variety of disciplines who are interested in participating in a Latino Studies Reading Group are sought.

The group will meet 2-3 times each semester to discuss essays and material of common interest to the group related to the following topics:

  • transnational approaches to the study of race and ethnicity in the Americas, broadly conceived
  • the formation of Latino studies as a discipline, including questions of canon formation and periodization
  • the relationship between Latino studies and other fields of inquiry, including Chicano studies, borderlands studies, African American studies, and indigenous studies.

If these and other topics related to Latino studies and ethnic studies are of interest to you, please e-mail Cara Kinnally at for more information about the reading group. Cara A. Kinnally, Ph.D. is a visiting lecturer at the IU Department of Spanish and Portuguese.
