During the same week, IU alumnus Eric Deggans received the Arts and Entertainment Task Force Legacy Award and a position as NPR's first TV critic.

The Arts and Entertainment Task Force Legacy Award was presented by the National Association of Black Journalists.  Speaking about the award, Deggans said, "It's not just about journalism, it's about pressing the case of diversity in media, and helping increase diversity in the media, and fighting prejudice and stereotypes in news reporting—all the things that NABJ stands for."

A frequent contributor to NPR, Deggans starts his new post as NPR’s first TV critic in October.  Deggans has served as a TV/media critic for the Tampa Bay Times and other various media hubs.
