Intensive Writing Roundtables
Workshops for Pedagogy Courses
The Writing Program can be called upon to organize workshops for faculty members or Associate Instructors in an entire department or school, or just for the instructors in a particular course.
Topics the CWP has addressed in previous workshops include:
- establishing writing in a departmental curriculum
- designing effective writing assignments
- responding to student writing
- ensuring equitable grading among different sections of one course
- time-saving marking strategies
- discouraging plagiarism
- incorporating Turnitin.com into a course
Intensive Writing Roundtables
In partnership with the office of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the College of Arts and Sciences, the CWP hosts annual faculty roundtable discussions for faculty teaching Intensive Writing courses for the College.
At the most recent roundtable, featured faculty speakers included Cindy Duquette Smith (Telecommunications), George Malicinski (Biology), and Arlene Diaz (History), who discussed their implementation of revision assignments and peer review sessions.
Workshops for Pedagogy Courses
The CWP can also provide workshops or presentations for graduate level pedagogy courses in the departments and schools.
Possible topics include:
- designing effective writing assignments
- discussing writing in the classroom
- responding to student writing--evaluating, commenting, and marking
- ensuring equitable grading among different sections of one course
- time-saving marking strategies
- discouraging plagiarism
- conferring one-on-one with students
Staff members approach these topics in whatever manner lead faculty prefer--through interactive workshops, presentations, small group discussions, or one-on-one meetings. Sometimes, faculty fold these sessions into their syllabi and the CWP takes responsibility for a day's class time.
Please call the the CWP (844-5928) to make arrangements.
