CASL Speakers Series:
CSLD and CASL want you to have the experience of meeting and listening to leaders who are making an impact in their community. Past speakers include: Felisha Legette-Jack (IU Women’s Head Basketball Coach), Dean McCKaig (Former Dean of Students) and Bill Cook (Founder of Cook Pharmica). CASL is currently scheduling an amazing line-up for the Leadership Speaker Series for Fall 2011. Please check back for the names, dates and locations.
L1 Leadership Series Courses
The L1 Leadership Series courses are administered by the Center for Student Leadership Development. Each of these academic courses is offered through the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Studies in the School of Health, Physical Education. The current courses include:
- L180 – Participant Leadership Development (1 credit hour/semester)
- L181 – Organizational Leadership Development (1 credit hour/semester)
L180 – Participant Leadership Development guides students through the development of a personal leadership plan which they will use throughout their undergraduate career. This course meets throughout the semester using a combination of on-line resources and four hours of contact time. Examples of individuals who would benefit from this course include, but are not limited to: committee members, athletic /club/organization members, sports officials, lifeguards, waiters, ushers, receptionists and facility supervisors.
Course content includes:
- Leadership/Followership
- Goal Setting
- Integrity
- Time Management
- Teamwork
- Diversity & Communication
- Achieving Balance
L181 – Organizational Leadership Development is designed to teach students leadership skills that they can use to increase their skills as organizational leaders. Content is delivered using interactive on-line tools and face-to-face meetings (four contact hours). Examples of individuals who would benefit from this course include, but are not limited to: organization executive officers (president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer), committee chairs/directors, head officials, lifeguards, team captains, lead waiters and lead supervisors.
Course content includes:
- Organizational and Individual Goal Development
- Leadership Styles
- The Art of Delegating
- Successful Event Planning and Evaluation
- Diversity & Ethics
- Mentoring/Supporting

Leadership Minor
When considering a minor it is important to consider what knowledge is important for you to demonstrate to your future employer. A minor in leaderships will show your acknowledgement of the importance of understanding leadership, and your commitment to learning both practical and theoretical aspects of leadership development.Interested in a leadership minor?
