Statement My teaching philosophy is to create a community of Chinese language learners within my numerous classes. Every student plays an important role in the linguistic and cultural learning of him/herself as well as that of his/her peers. Therefore, strategically encouraging collaboration and cooperation among students within and without the classroom is a very important part of my teaching practice. The reason for such a practice is due to my belief that language is not a subject matter that can be taught and learned solely within the classroom. How to motivate my students’ curiosity in reaching out to learning opportunities that are possible in all places, times, and means is the fundamental pursuit of my pedagogical approach. In all, I am much more interested in cultivating a curious, open, and caring mind, than a mind that can simply comprehend Chinese. |
